Like some lucid and fragmented dream, Paula Wilson is an artist of immense subliminal talent. Her hybrid paintings — a complicated weave of printmaking and collage, are exquisite amalgams of cultural identity, place and light. Decorative and dense, Wilson’s work reads as both fantastical memoir and historical dervish, radiating an inner glow made even more vibrant by the bold use of color, texture and pattern. Under the guise of traditional subjects, Wilson instills each painting with a quiet, yet contemporary sense of exhilaration. The recipient of numerous grants, awards and eminent acquisitions, the opportunity to own Wilson’s work has become increasingly valuable and rare. Paula Wilson has been featured in group and solo exhibitions across the United States and Europe, including the Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia, Bellwether Gallery in New York, the Galleria Suzy Shammah in Milan, and the Zacheta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw. She lives and works in Carrizozo, New Mexico.
